All About Dachshund Puppies

The dog breed Dachshund is made up of three varieties including the short-haired Dachshund, the wire haired Dachshund and the long haired Dachshund. Dachshunds also come in three different sizes, often referred to as the Standard Dachshund (the largest), the Miniature Dachshund (medium size), and the Toy Dachshund.

The Dachshund is a muscular dog with short legs and an elongated body, head and muzzle. As you can see in the Dachshund pictures featured their ears hang low near their cheeks and their coats are shiny. Out of all the dog breeds, Dachshunds can be a variety of colors and still stay within the breed. They are often tan, yellow or bi-colored with hints of black, brown or gray. Some Dachshunds are even found to be speckle streaked.

Dachshunds puppies require training or otherwise they will train you! Dachshunds are intelligent dogs, as well as lively, proud, bold, tenacious and affectionate. Often times the long haired variety is said to be calmer than the other two varieties but all are said to be difficult to train.

Before you get your Dachshund puppy be sure to know that these dogs are surprisingly active and need to be walked daily. They live up to 12-15 years and need to be groomed often. In fact the long haired Dachshund is supposed to be combed daily and the smooth haired variety require a regular rubdown with a damp cloth.

When looking for a Dachshund puppy I recommend you consider if the breed will really fit your lifestyle, rather than just buying one because they are cute. The first stop you should look to buy a Dachshund puppy is obviously the local animal shelter, or look for adoption sites online. If you can’t find what you are looking for, contact people who breed Dachshunds because they can often lead you in the right direction.
