Dog Olympics 2012

To recognize that the Olympics will be starting today in Torino, I thought I would talk about other types of Olympics, such as the DOG OLYMPICS.

According to The Kennel Gazette in November 2005, the Kennel Club will be holding a series of events entitled the "Dog Olympics" during the year 2012, when the Olympics Games will be held in London.

In an editorial from Ronnie Irving, the Chairman of The Kennel Club asks for help to make this event actually happen. He understands how some don't consider dog sports to be real sports, but he believes it is his chance to show the world the agility dogs truly have.

The main purpose of the Dog Olympics will be to celebrate all aspects of man's relationship with the dog and will incorporate the many canine activities with which The Kennel Club is involved. The UK will be the focus of the world attention in 2012, and it gives us an opportunity to use that focus to the benefit of dogs. The Kennel Club has been around for 132 years and so we won't have a key anniversary for another 18 years. This special year for the UK and London, gives us an ideal reason to celebrate and publicise the dog in a unique and beneficial way.

The Kennel Club is encouraging ideas from everyone, to makes this event the best it possibly can be.

Honestly, I hope that these dogs will start participating in bobsledding. I can just see it!! Or how about curling... but with chunks of fruit or something. That would be funny. Thinking about dogs ice skating, and playing basketball is almost as funny as me thinking about the Dog Super Bowl I mentioned yesterday. Hahaha.
